Webpage Update

Whilst filming and editing, I have also been designing my webpage. I had already started this, however I just produced a layout and put in templates of where I wanted things to go. Now that I have my actual band images and information, I was able to put this into my webpage. This meant I done things like replace the template banner and logo, with Revolutions banner an logo. Alongside this it meant that I could also put in photos of them. Below is a screenshot of one of the many designs that I produced. A you can see I have chosen a colour scheme to set my house style, which is black, burgundy and white. I have the banner at the top of the webpage, and the menu bar across the top. I have also used an image of Revolution to put as the background of the webpage and you can see this from the print screen. This looked very effective, however it seemed to make the page look a little messy and unfinished so I decided that it was better to be plain black.
I then went on to try out more designs, and after many different changes and trying this and trying that, I found a suitable webpage design that I liked and I wanted to stick with. This can be seen in the print screen below. Originally, I was only going to change the background but then I got designing and started to try out and create new ideas. I used the same banner, however adjusted the colour to make it more burgundy/red and I made it thinner. I did this because I thought that it looked better at the top of the webpage. I then changed the text and layout of the menu bar and I think this looks more professional then what I had before. By this time I had also created my digi-pack and so I had the front cover to Revolution's album cover. This meant that I was able to insert this onto the webpage as an advertisement for their album release. I also took the idea of having an image of the band as part of the background, and I did this by applying it to a smaller background (on the latest news box). Finally, I made smaller adjustments to make my website appear more professional and conventional. I did want to challenge some of the conventions of a website, and so I used very little colour and a modern layout to do so. However, I included small elements that appear on webpages, for example, a Facebook and Twitter logo to hyperlink the visitor to the band's Facebook and twitter. Additionally, I made my own address link to sign up fans to receive the band's newsletter and latest information, along with a button that immediately lets them listen to their latest song release - which is' Half The World Away'.

Story Boarding for our final idea

After looking at our filming and deciding that it was not going to work in our music video, we had to compeltely re-vamp our idea or try and re-film. there was no point re-filming what we had already filmed because we still thought that it would fit together or look as good as we had originally expected. This meant that we went back to our origional idea of having a story between a male and a female, but instead of having such a dramatic story-line, we toned it down so that it just portrayed a break-up between the girl and boy. We found that this fit in nicely with the band performances and with the actual lyrics to the song. So I then story-board our idea so that when we filmed it we had a clear frame of what needed to be filmed and we could follow through a simple plan.

Wednesday 18 January 2012

We began our filming on the 12.12.11. We had a good 2 hours with the camera so we filmed as much as we could in these 2 hours. We had 6 actors/actresses to play in our film and we began to film according to our storyboard. This made it easy for us as we were able to follow our plan. We were productive in terms of we knew what we were doing and got a good amount filmed, however when we played back our footage we realised that it didn't look like how we expected. This was because the actors/actresses kept laughing and it didn't look real. We realised that to make our music video effective and believable, which is what we want, we need to correct this. We then decided to find different actors/actresses and really map out or vision so that we wouldn't make the same mistake twice. We then re-scheduled to film for thursday 19th January and Tuesday 24th January. On the 19th we have booked drama room 3 where we can use the lights and curtains to create a good appearance to film our band in. This means that we will develop the quality of our idea from our first filming, where the band were set up in a normal music room. Our new location and equipment will look more professional and engaging for our audience to watch.

Another fault we realised when we played back our filming is that the lighting was bad in some areas. for example, the image below shows how the footage is too dark and it is unclear to see our actress. We need to make sure that when we re-film we don't have this happen and our our footage is clear so that we don't have to re-film again.

On the 24th we will then film the rest of our music video, where our band is not on screen, this is the storyline to fit the song. Again, once we had looked at our footage we did see that our actors/actresses weren't believable but then we felt that the storyline didn't really fit in as well as we had imagened. However, we do not regret that we changed our idea because we would have thought 'what if we did this, what if we did that' otherwise. At least now we have tried out the idea and seen that it hasn't worked. We have now decided to revert back to our original idea, which we actually didn't try out with the camera, to the story of a man and a women being far away from each other. We are going to do this by re-constructing our plan and fitting in our new ideas.

Evidence of Asking Permission To Use The Song

Within our group, Alban emailed the record label asking for permission to use the song 'Half The World Away' in our coursework piece.

Webpage Deisgn

This is a screenshot of my 1st draft of my website design. I have used the banner and logo I previously created on Gimp and I have used the images I have previously worked with, to show where my images will go. So far this webpage is a draft and gives me the layout, which enables me to just replace the existing text and images with the real ones for our band, Revolution.
